- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (between 100°F and 110°F)
- 1 cup milk (or almond/oat milk for dairy-free)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil for dairy-free)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or honey/maple syrup)
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a small bowl, then sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well, then add the yeast mixture, warmed milk, and butter. Mix until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the loaf for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
For denser texture, consider using whole wheat flour. Store bread in resealable plastic bag at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
