Description

Delightful homemade jelly-filled doughnuts, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Jam or jelly for filling (strawberry or raspberry recommended)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually mix in the yeast mixture, eggs, and butter until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll risen dough to about ½-inch thick and cut into rounds. Let rise on a floured baking sheet for another 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F.
  7. Fry the doughnuts for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Fill each doughnut with jam and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure your yeast is fresh for the best rise. Adjust frying oil temperature carefully to achieve a crispy exterior.
