Description
A delicious and nostalgic classic patty melt made with juicy beef, melted Swiss cheese, and crispy rye bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 slices Rye Bread
- 4 slices Swiss Cheese
- 1 medium Onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings. Form into a patty about 1 inch thick.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown, about 8-10 minutes.
- Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the beef patty. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare.
- When flipping the patty for the second time, place a slice of Swiss cheese on top to melt.
- Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. On a clean surface, place one slice butter-side down, layer the cooked patty with cheese and sautéed onions, then cap with another slice of bread.
- Heat the skillet over medium-low heat and grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side.
- Remove from skillet, let cool for a minute, slice in half, and serve hot.
Notes
Serve with crispy fries or a side salad. Top with homemade Thousand Island dressing or spicy mayo for an extra kick.
