Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pre-made pie crusts
- 1 lb ground sausage (or turkey sausage)
- 1 cup bell peppers, chopped
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella and cheddar)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
Instructions

- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Drain excess grease, then add chopped bell peppers and mushrooms, sautéing until tender (approximately 5-7 minutes).
- Stir in the tomato sauce and Italian seasoning; simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Mix in half of the shredded cheese until well combined.
- Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish; pour in the filling and evenly distribute. Cover with the second crust and seal the edges.
- Whisk an egg with a tablespoon of water for the egg wash and brush it over the top crust.
- Cut slits into the crust to allow steam to escape, then bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Consider using whole wheat crust or zucchini noodles for healthier alternatives.
