Description

A delicious fusion of pizza and pot pie that makes for a cozy and satisfying weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 pre-made pie crusts
  • 1 lb ground sausage (or turkey sausage)
  • 1 cup bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella and cheddar)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned. Drain excess grease, then add chopped bell peppers and mushrooms, sautéing until tender (approximately 5-7 minutes).
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce and Italian seasoning; simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Mix in half of the shredded cheese until well combined.
  5. Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish; pour in the filling and evenly distribute. Cover with the second crust and seal the edges.
  6. Whisk an egg with a tablespoon of water for the egg wash and brush it over the top crust.
  7. Cut slits into the crust to allow steam to escape, then bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider using whole wheat crust or zucchini noodles for healthier alternatives.
