Description

A delightful artisan bread infused with garlic, herbs, and cheese, perfect for impressing friends and family.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (100°F-110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons mixed herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture along with olive oil.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and allow to rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough rises, mix minced garlic, herbs, and cheese in a bowl.
  6. After the first rise, punch the dough down and roll it out to a rectangle about 12×18 inches.
  7. Spoon the herb and cheese mix evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border.
  8. Starting from one edge, roll the dough into a log, pinch seams to seal.
  9. Place the loaf in a greased pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes until puffed.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Notes

For a richer flavor, substitute olive oil with melted butter. You can also experiment with different types of cheese.
