Description
Delightful and festive cookies that embody the spirit of Italian holiday traditions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Zest of 1 Lemon or Orange
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and citrus zest, mixing until thoroughly blended.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined. Use your hands to bring the dough together.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thickness, and use cookie cutters to shape your cookies.
- Place the cut cookies on a prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Once baked, let the cookies cool for a few minutes and then dust with powdered sugar or decorate as desired.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential for maintaining the structure of the cookies, and overmixing should be avoided to prevent toughness.
